MANILA, Philippines -- False text messages about the results of the June 2008 licensure exams for nursing have been flying about and the Board of Nursing has issued an advisory saying that there's no truth to them.
BoN member Marco Sto. Tomas told INQUIRER.net Tuesday that the two kinds of text messages indicated that 69 percent of the 65,000 or so who took the exam in June passed, and that the same percentage failed.
The text messages also alleged that the BoN had asked President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to delay the release of the results so that those who failed won't be able to make it to the filing of applications for the December 2008 exams.
"Walang katotohanan [No truth to them]. That's revenue [the application fees], so why would we want to do that?" Sto. Tomas said.
"To the nursing public and stakeholders, do not succumb to these 'irresponsible text messages,'" he added.
He said the results of the June 2008 board exam "may" come out on the last week of July.
"Please be advised that with God's grace and based on new schedules from the PRC [Professional Regulation Commission], our NLE [Nursing Licensure Examination] results may be released within the last week of July," Sto. Tomas said.
He also advised the examinees and their parents, relatives, and friends to believe only official releases from BoN website, or leading news outfits.
